Hello dear friend and reader!
Recently, I've been in such a dark place mentally and it's lasted a few months... but I'm slowly coming back to life and back to myself.
Praise God for that, because somehow, we're already approaching the halfway point of the year.
Over the last 5 months, I've lived in a season of burnout and depression. If you were to look at me from the outside, you probably wouldn't know it. I still showed up to work. I still made my bed every morning, packed lunch for my husband, walked the dogs, took my showers, stayed faithful to my church commitments.
That's the thing about high-functioning depression—you don't stop doing, but everything feels heavier. What kept me moving was a mix of fear, (of failure, of disappointing others), a strong sense of responsibility, and God carrying me through it all.
I'm still struggling to feel that joy of Christ in me... but at least the creativity is slowly coming back to me. And that means everything.
Enter Faylo
One flicker of light in this darkness was the unexpected birth of a little character.
From the beginning of Heaven's Whimsy, I knew I wanted a mascot—but nothing ever felt quite right. I tried a little mushroom, a little chipmunk, a squirrel, a cat, a duck... but none of them clicked with he heart of what I wanted this shop to be.
Because Heaven's Whimsy was never meant to be just a shop. It's meant to be a place of comfort—a small beacon of warmth, welcome, and encouragement. A mascot, I felt, could help bring that heart to life.
And that's how Faylo was born.
Who is Faylo?
Faylo is a small, soft ghost. She wears a glowing halo and a pair of fake angel wings like the ones you buy at the Halloween shop. She’s round, quiet, and comforting.
Her name is a blend of fable and halo, and she was inspired by a moment in my depression when I longed—not just to know others were praying for me—but to feel it.
She lives in the forest but wanders into the world to visit the weary and the brokenhearted. Sometimes she sings. Sometimes she just sits quietly nearby.
She is the bridge between something heavenly and something fantasy.
Her message is simple:
God is here. Even in the quiet. Even in whimsy. Even in the sadness we don’t speak aloud.
Faylo’s very existence is a reminder that holiness can be small, soft, and unseen.
She is still in the developing stage. Working out her kinks, her personality, and more of her lore.
And Then Came Ohi
Faylo isn't alone. She has a companion named Ohi—a little runt raven with messy feathers and a too-big bowtie. He's curious, clumsy, and completely devoted to her. He brings her shiny things, pebbles, and the occasional leaf.
Together, they are becoming the heart of Heaven's Whimsy.
What Comes Next
If you know me, you know I'm a dreamer with big ideas. So naturally, Faylo and Ohi are already growing into something more.
My plan is to create gentle comic strips—quiet moments of warmth and prayer between the two of them, available exclusively through Heaven's Whimsy. Over time, I'd love to develop products inspired by them, too.
But this is a slow-growing thing. A careful thing.
I've burned out before—so I'm approaching Faylo with the patience and grace she herself would offer: one moment at a time, prayerfully.
Stay tuned for their debut!
Until next time!
